A firm, which is the owner of Boston Building, agreed that it violated federal clean air act regarding asbestos cleanup during a building renovation project.
HP Boston Building was issued a fine of $500,000 and probation for 36 months on Wednesday in a United States federal court. The judge also asked the company to carry out training on asbestos for its employees and other units affiliated with it.
The company informed that before renovation and demolition of the 9 Exchange Place building, it failed to systematically inspect portions where asbestos was being handled in 2007. The project involved more than 160 square feet of asbestos and more than 260 linear feet of pipes containing asbestos.
