The EPA (Environment Protection Authority) has issued a fine to two Wimmera (Victoria) corporations for illegally dumping industrial debris containing asbestos.
Brian Bentley Transport and Benian Australia were found dumping construction waste, household debris, green debris and tyres.
According to Tim Eaton with the EPA, the illegal debris had asbestos. Eaton said the waste has been cleaned up now.
Eaton says asbestos and all other wastes went to proper facilities now. He said the EPA issued a fine of $6,000 in each case.
“This will hopefully send message that not only you will have to remove the dangerous waste but you will have to pay the penalty for failing to do it adequately in the first place,” Eaton said.
